Many people have the mistaken idea that in order to sense our spirit friends and mentors, we have to be able to see them, hear them or perhaps even touch them. This is not so. For one thing, it takes a great deal of energy and focused effort for spirit people to make connections with us here in physical life. Did you know that for every spirit communication, there are maybe hundreds of focused minds behind that brief moment? This is one of the reasons any person working with spirit people has to become aware of how they connect with spirit and how to be more aware and focused to pick up on and understand such spirit connections.

Our spirit friends can make themselves known in many subtle ways and rarely indulge in a 'splashy' full materialization, unless they are bursting with energy that day! Sensing spirit friends can take many forms and it's really up to you to pay attention and trust the very first thing you notice. A connection may come in the form of a sudden inspirational thought, memory or vision. It may come in the lightest of touches over skin, hair or clothes. (My mum once tugged the hood of my coat as I went up the stairs in Boots. I knew it was she because that's exactly what she would do when alive.) Other connections to be aware of are objects being moved or disappearing for a while when you *know* it's not simply something lost. You may feel sudden warmth or coolness, in extreme examples, like someone has opened a fridge. You may be aware of dark shadows or shapes passing by, almost as if a bird has flown across the room.

If you get these events regularly enough to decide they can't be discounted as coincidence, then simply think 'Hello, I know you're there.' and imagine that thought being sent out to a person in spirit. If they are trying to connect with you, they will be watching out for this reaction so they know the message was received. From this point, you can develop your connection by sending out more thoughts or feelings of happiness, thus building up your relationship with your spirit friends.
