Nature Meditation
A gentle, cleansing, nature meditation by the big oak tree
16 April, 2005
Ok... just get comfortable... find the comfortable spot on your chair
and allow yourself to relax a little... take a deep... deep breath...
hold it for a little while... and slowly let it out... and another...
deep breath... hold... and slowly let it out.
As you allow yourself to relax a little... I want you to imagine that
we sit in the spring sunshine... under a huge, old, oak tree... see
it as clearly as you can... the rough texture of the bark... the browns
and greys of the trunk... the greens of the new leaves... high in
the branches... birds peer down at us... their plumage alight with
their spring colours... the sunshine streams down through the leaves...
tinged with green... dust motes dance and sparkle in the streams of
green light like little rainbows.
If you can, notice the birdsong... the sounds of insects and grasshoppers
about us... none of them near us... or bothering us... just doing
their own thing...
Beneath us, the ground is damp with the morning dew... cobwebs glisten
with dewdrops... their patterns intricate... the ground is so soft
and comfortable... I can smell that earthy smell from it
As we sit here in the shade... with the sunlight streaming about us...
warming the backs of out necks... I want you to reach out and touch
the massive roots of this old, old tree and
as you do... you may feel a tingle... a connection... follow it as
it goes deep into the ground... following the roots as they search
ever downwards into the earth... deep.. deep down... until they hit
bedrock... they bind on... strongly... securely... anchoring them
deep within Mother Earths care...
Feel that link... join with it... and as you do, earth energy flows
back up... and into you... warming... enfolding... surrounding you...
filling you with warm... velvety... thick.. earth energy... feeling
at one with the world... with nature... for a few moments... just
enjoy this connection... this feeling of warmth as the energy fills
you.
Notice how the roots feel against your hand... warm and smooth...
maybe you can even feel the slow, slow beat... the pulse of the earth...
allow yourself to attune to it... to start to slowly beat with it...
and as you do.... feel the power and energy surround you... like a
shield of the strongest armour... protecting and keeping you safe
As you do... look around you... really notice what is around you...
we will all probably see different things... so I will just describe
what I can see... there are so many wildflowers... yellows... blues
... purples... the grass is lush and green... clover and moss make
it a comfortable green carpet... butterflies flit from flower to flower...
ladybugs.. their red spotted wingcases gleaming in the sunshine...
dragonflies... dance and flit around the stream that burbles over
rocks just over there... they look like little faery folk... with
their ballgowns on
A couple of baby rabbits graze on a little hillock over by the stream...
their noses twitch as they see me looking at them... and they go back
to the grass eating... over by those bushes... a rustling as an animal
moves about... a black and white striped snout... its a beautiful
old badger... snuffling and grumping as he hurries to go forage for
his brood... he has two younglings... inquisitive... they stick their
noses out through the bushes and when they see us... they dart back
to their set
High on the hill behind the tree... a doe and her two foals stand...
the big buck... his antlers wide... look down at us... they see there
is no threat... and make their way down to drink from the stream...
as they get there... a couple of otters splash into the water... they
writhe in intricate patterns around each other... having fun... playing
in the shallow water... stopping to sniff... watch... their whiskers
quivering... eyes smiling and full of mischief as their lower jaw
drips water and seems to laugh at us.
I can smell the wild flowers... lavender I think... and others I can
t tell what they are... but they are so nice... high above... a pair
of sparrowhawks dance their mating dance... flying high into the clear
blue sky... black against the cotton wool clouds... so high... drifting
and swooping as they dance their love for each other... full of hope
and renewal... it makes me feel alive... looking forward to my next
adventure... aware that spring is in the air and changes are afoot...
an adventure about to start... happy
Sit for a moment and just feel this connection to nature... the power
of it filling and inspiring you to write your poetry... inspiring
you to play your tune... dance your dance... sing your opera... in
the sunshine... warm and secure... the sounds and smells and sights
and colours enfold you
As we sit... a warm drizzling rain starts... soaking us... our hair
dripping into our eyes... we laugh and enjoy this warm cleansing rain...
scrub your skin gently with this warm rain... your whole body being
cleansed... revitalised... freshened... I can hear several of you
laughing... see you skipping in the rain... your arms outstretched...
tongue out, face up... laughing into the falling rain... I join you...
and soon we all are just enjoying the rain.
The otters sit and look at us... bemused... the deer and her family...
after hurrying away, turn and look... the badger cubs look through
the streaming leaves at us... nervously...
Fully cleansed and refreshed... feeling so much brighter... we stand
as the rain stops and sun comes out fully... soon the ground steams
gently... as do our clothes... our hair... it warms us... dries us...
and we return to the dry ground under the tree... breathless... giggling
The colours seem much brighter... the smells much clearer... we have
to return soon so have a good look around... see all you can... down
beside us all... the diva guarding this wonderful old oak tree...
has left us each a token... a gift... as we unwrap it... it could
be a word... a feeling... something we need for our adventure ahead...
hold it tight.... knowing that we can return here anytime we wish.
Allow your eyes to close... smelling the plants and wet earth about
us... hearing the birdsong and otter play... take a deep shuddering
breath... and return
Namaste
