This meditation starts in a cave, high in the
mountains, and ends with Merlin taking us for a flight.
If you have never done an online meditation, all you have to do
is visualise what I am typing... if you find it hard to see it...
then easiest way to describe is... when you go into your bedroom...
its pitch black... but you 'know' where everything is... you 'feel'
it... do that
Take a deep breath... and allow yourself to find
that comfy spot on your chair... place both feet on the ground...
and relax a little
Imagine as clearly as you can... roots coming from
your feet and going deep into the earth... deep down until they
hit bedrock... as they bind on... you may feel a tingle... a connection...
as soon as they bind on... warm .. thick.. velvety energy flows
back up the roots... up through your feet... your legs... into your
torso... arms... fills you with a warm gentle energy... really feel
it filling you... warming you... welcoming you... you may even feel
your hands warming and tingling... feel it flowing into your head...
warm gentle... velvety energy... helping you to relax... helping
you to see the adventure were about to embark on... for a moment
just enjoy this warm energy coursing through your body... feeling
the connection to mother earth... the connection to everything there
is
I want you to imagine as clearly as you can... we
stand in a cave... high in the mountains... the opening of the cave
allows the light to stream in... Its a sunny day... a warm breeze
... touches your skin... I can see mountains around us... through
the opening
Have a good look around you ... a fire pit has a
small fire... wood beside it... I put a couple of logs on... they
crackle and soon start to blaze... warm skins and rugs are on the
floor... on the walls are drawings... paintings... herbs and flowers
hang... drying... from the roof... I can smell their musky scents...
shelves line the walls... books... figurines... musical instruments
on them... its a safe place
At the back of the cave I can hear trickling water...
stalactites hang from the ceiling... damp... sparkling in the reflection
of the light... stalagmites on the floor...
As we explore.. Following the sounds of the water... we come to
a small stream.. feeding into a pool... it flows down the side of
the cave... over an outcrop... and splashes gently into the pool...
as we approach the pool... its so clear... pure water... there are
cups and beakers... carved ones... take one and enjoy the water...
its cool and clear... and as you drink it... you can feel it flowing
down your throat... cool... and as it reaches your stomach.. it
seems to burst into energy... effervescent energy... feel it spreading
out through the whole of your body... from your stomach.. to the
tips of your fingers and the soles of your feet... filling you with
this sparkling .. wonderful energy...
The more you drink... with each sip... your body becomes more and
more energised... all your aches and pains eased... the energy changes
a little... becomes stronger and more vibrant... its like we are
filled with different colours and sounds that blend together in
harmony
When you have had enough... step into the pool....
to the water cascading over the outcrop... and allow it to cleanse
you... feel the coolness against your skin... feel it washing away
the negative... like molasses on your skin... its washed away...
leaving you shining and ... free...
As we stand... I can see some of you splashing...
laughing.. enjoying the pool... rainbows fill the air... I step
out... grab a rug... and make my way back to the fire... as you
feel ready to... come and join me
I throw a couple more logs on to the fire... they
crackle and the smells of the sap fill the cave... I find a comfortable
spot by the fire and take a kettle of water... place it to warm...
and soon.. as the last of you shake yourselves and come laughing
into the main cave... the kettle is boiled... one of you pass me
some herbs.. we can find out later what they are... and I make some
tea... pour it... stir in some honey and soon we all sit... enjoying
our tea.. Listening to the fire crackling...
The flames golden... oranges and reds... sparks
of blue as the sap ignites... our power animals enter the cave...
ahh here comes my wolf from the back of the cave... his tongue lolling
out of his mouth... ears pricked... as he settles down beside the
fire... your animal joins you... it feels good... right to be here
with you all... it also feels like we are waiting... expecting something...

My eyes get drawn to the opening of the cave...
the sunlight streams in... Little particles of dust.. dance like
wee folk flying and diving in the sunlight... little tiny flashes
of rainbows too as the sunlight reflects off them... the warmth
of the sun at our front... and the fire beside us... soon has us
dropping our rugs and blankets... warm and comfortable
A shadow... at the edge of the cave... someone comes... he stands...
tall... the sun behind him... a staff in his hand... the sun glinting
fiercely in the crystal at the top of it... he enters the cave and
as we stand he smiles and says hi to us all... his smile softens
his craggy face... his eyes so gentle and wise...
He says to us... I'm Merlin... blessed be.. good to meet you all
again... he embraces all of us
and tells us to sit... as we settle by the fire... he sits and warms
his hands... holding each of us in his searching and wise gaze...
He says.... I have come to offer you an adventure... but if you
dont feel it right for you at this time... that’s fine...
its fine!!! But if you do want to take part... its going to take
a wee bit of courage and faith... We look at each other... a bit
wary... but he just laughs... a warm laugh... its easy he says...
what I want you to do is to fly with me
As we sit by the fire... thinking about what he
says.. he stands... shakes dust off his robes
and runs towards the mouth of the cave... he keeps on running and
launches himself off the edge... arms outstretched... we all jump
to our feet and make our way to the edge... he’s a long way
down... arms still out stretched... ahhhh... he swoops and starts
to come back up... I can hear his exhilarated laugh from here
With a nervous and relieved laugh... we step back
and let him land on the ledge... its easy... he says... its faith...
and its good... he laughs... gets your blood pumping... this is
the adventure I offered you... he says... if its not for you...
stay by the fire... explore the cave... watch us and enjoy the view...
but for those of us who want to...
He walks back into the cave and turns... he waits
till those of us who want to are ready and with him... he smiles
and says... hold my hand... I wont let you fall
I take his hand in mine... I can feel another hand
take my other hand... and soon several of us are ready... my heart
starts to beat a little faster... my mouth dry... he says... lets
go... and starts running towards the edge... with a yell we all
run... and holding tight... we launch ourselves with him... over
the edge
The wind streaming through our hair... the ground
so far below... but so safe the feeling... we seem to be slowing
as we fall ... he yells.. Just imagine what you want... be a bird...
fly
I still hold on... but I can feel the wind against
my face and as I open my eyes.. The view... wow... for a little
time we just do our own thing... I decide to return... and soon
land on the edge of the cave... I feel so exhilarated... I turn
to watch him and a couple of you swooping... laughing... flying...
free
I can see him rounding you up... pointing back to
us... and soon... reluctantly... you all land beside us... laughing...
hair all over the place... eyes glistening and full of light...
bursting with energy... he says to us.. you can do this anytime
you want to... whatever you can imagine ... you can do... fly with
the birds and dragons... swim with the whales and dolphins have
fun... but now it is time you all went back... you will take with
you... all this energy and light.. This windswept feeling and sense
of adventure...
He turns and dives away... yelling goodbye as he
does... we watch him until he is a speck in the sky... and return
to the fire... where in each of our places.. A small token lies
for us... we take it.. Settle by the fire...
And with a deep shuddering breath... we leave here
and return
