Colour
Healing the use of Colour in Healing
Session 8 (11-11-03 )
We will
open this circle with a prayer. I ask
that the Creator surround each of us with
a white light of protection, and that
each of us will be blessed with the enlightenment
we seek. So mote it be.
In the
next few circles we will be covering Colour
Healing, of several kinds and the many
ways it can be applied. Those of you who
are interested in channelling healing
energy to others will find this information
valuable. And those of you who are interested
in using colour for self-healing will
learn new ways to apply colour in your
lives.
I’d like to open the Healing Circle
tonight with a quote from Pythagoras (585-495
B.C.) “When the magical power of
sound and colour are rediscovered and
directed to specific purposes, there will
be energies of a higher dimension transcending
those unleashed by the atom today."
Before
we go any further I am going to give you
a brief, simple rundown of what is known
scientifically about light today, to put
into perspective just what we are dealing
with here. Light is one particular type
of electromagnetic radiation, there are
many others. Each type of radiation is
distinguished by its wavelength, or frequency.
We are surrounded by electromagnetic waves
of energy of which colour is just a small
part.
The colours
- red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo,
and violet, all emanate from the sun.
Colour is simply light of different wavelengths
and frequencies and light is just one
form of energy made up from photons. The
visible spectrum as we see it consists
of the rainbow.
Our retinas
have three types of colour receptors in
the form of cones. We can only detect
three of these colours - red - blue and
green. It is these three colours that
are mixed to create the other colours
we see. The wavelength and frequency of
the light we see, depends upon the colour
we see.
The seven colours of the spectrum all
have varying wavelengths and frequencies.
Red is at the lower end of the spectrum
and has a higher wavelength but lower
frequency to that of Violet at the top
end of the spectrum, which has a lower
wavelength and higher frequency.
Our
ancestors spent a good deal of their time
working outdoors in natural light, but
gradually this all began to change as
ways of bringing light into their dwelling
places evolved. Now we spend most of our
time in closed quarters, our homes, offices,
malls, cars, factories, etc. Our children
are placed in schools for most of their
daytime hours; and we all are living with
fluorescent or incandescent lighting,
which is a poor substitute for natural
light. We apply sunscreen to our skin
and wear sunglasses to protect our eyes
from the very light that our body requires.
“Sunning” ourselves on the
beaches has been substituted by tanning
beds. (I won’t go into the hole
in the ozone layer here.) lol We have
come to live an unnatural lifestyle that
we are not made for, in artificial surroundings,
and we are paying a price on many levels
for the choices we have made.
Sunlight
is needed for the production of Vitamin
D in our skin and the metabolism of calcium;
the amount of calcium in the system regulates
not only our bones, but also our nerves
and the thinking process. Recently SAD
(Seasonal Affective Disorder) (a form
of depression) has been discovered to
affect many during the winter months when
we function with even less of the needed
daylight.
Colour
has profound effect on us on all levels,
physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
It affects our moods - blue is calming
- red can make us tense. We use it everyday
in our lives without giving it much thought.
The rays that we are able to detect become
visible when a prism is placed in the
path of sunlight. As the light passes
through the prism, it is split into the
seven visible colours of the spectrum
by refraction.
This refracted light is the perfect image
of the Rainbow. I see this rainbow as
a mirror reflection
of our own inner beauty, our inner light.
Because colour has such a profound effect
on us on all levels, if our energy centres
become blocked or depleted then our body
cannot function properly.
Each of the seven colours, resonates with
one of the main seven chakra's of the
body. Each colour having its own particular
energy. These chakra's are like spirals
of energy, each one relating to the other.
If you can imagine the chakra's/energy
centres as a set of wheels, they are rather
like the workings of a clock; the wheels
need to move smoothly and at a similar
speed for the clock/chakra to work properly.
Good health and well-being is achieved
by a balance of all these energies colour
healing can help to re balance these 'wheels'
by applying the appropriate colour to
the body and therefore re balance our
chakra's. The eyes, skin and skull absorb
colour. Every cell in the body needs light
energy - thus colour energy has widespread
affects on the whole body.
Colour Healing can be helpful for any
problem whether, physical, mental, emotional
or spiritual and as a relaxation therapy.
Colour treatments can be applied to the
body in a number of different ways. Some
examples of the various methods used are
visualization, colour breathing, solarized
water, placing of colour silks on the
body, and directing coloured light on
to the body, and last but not least is
multidimensional colour healing, which
is a favourite of mine that I intend to
get into in another Circle.
COLOURED
SILKS
One of the most popular ways of applying
colour directly to the body is to use
coloured silks. These are used to place
directly onto the body. Coloured silks
used, should be dyed with natural dyes
and made from pure silk. Any natural fabric
i.e. cotton, can be used where pure silk
is not appropriate. For instance, when
treating animals with colour.
SOLARISED
WATER
Solarized water is a cheap way of applying
colour to the body. Using a clear glass
of whatever colour needed, or a glass
with a colour filter held in place with
an elastic band. Fill the glass with fresh
pure water cover the glass with a piece
of gauze or muslin and allow it to sit
in the sunlight on a south wall sill.
A colour filter can be made of cellophane
or acetate. Depending upon how strong
the sun is, in summer the process of light
absorption should only take a couple of
hours but in winter it may be necessary
to leave the glass there all day. Then
store the container with a lid on in the
refrigerator. The solarized water will
last up to 5 days. It can be sipped or
used to even bathe affected areas - or
both.
And remember that the red, orange and
yellow are inclined to be stimulating,
so do not drink these too late in the
day as it may keep you awake at night.
The blue, indigo and violet are calming,
so it is best to drink these in the latter
half of the day. Oils can also be energized
using a similar method; can be use for
massage, not drunk!
LIGHT
BOX
A light box using full spectrum (natural
daylight) bulbs when used with the appropriate
coloured filter, is another way of giving
coloured light treatment to the body.
Light is energy. Using a light box with
a filter of the required colour is a very
effective way of applying colour to the
body. You may have heard about S.A.D.
(seasonal affective disorder), the light
box can also be used for treating S.A.D.
The light produced is full spectrum light
and is the closest you can get to natural
daylight.
COLOUR
CARDS
Colour cards are cards with coloured shapes
or circles and are easy to make. These
can be helpful for absorbing colour if
you are a beginner and have not yet mastered
visualization, because they give you something
to focus on. All you need to do is choose
the colour you want and concentrate on
that colour for about 10 minutes, follow
up with the complimentary colour for 5
min's. Repeat until you feel you have
had enough. You can't overdose on colour.
But do remember to use the complementary
colour for balance.
Complementary colours are the colours
"opposite" each other on the
colour wheel. Although "opposite"
each other, they are used together in
colour therapy to give balance. We need
the balance of the electric/cool colours
and the magnetic/warm colours for our
well being and smooth functioning of our
bodies.
VISUALIZATION
Visualizing colour
is easy with a little practice. If we
can visualize the colour we need, we can
access this colour and it's healing energy
at any time. Visualize yourself wherever
you feel safe and relaxed, whether that
is in nature, or by the sea. If you can
do this outside all the better, and, weather
permitting, try to stand on grass with
bare feet. Stand with feet slightly apart
and arms by your side and relax. It is
fine if you prefer to lie down or sit.
Relax the shoulders, and concentrate on
your breathing.
Wherever, you choose for your safe haven
- visualize the colour you want to work
with and, still being conscious of your
breathing, absorb that colour. Relax the
shoulders, and concentrate on your breathing,
then hold you’re in breath for a
few moments while the colour fills your
body. Then breath out all stress, pain
and turmoil. Repeat this several times.
COLOUR
BREATHING
I like to think of this exercise as breathing
in the rainbow. This has several functions.
It will sharpen your visualization skills,
and bring the colour energies and their
healing properties into your body. Breathing
is very important, yet many don’t
think about it we just take it for granted.
However, shallow breathing can cause feeling
of fatigue, dizziness, and stress due
to insufficient oxygen. Since approximately
90% of our energy is created by oxygen
and nearly all the body's actions are
regulated by it - it is rather important
that we get enough of it!!
There
are a number of breathing techniques,
which are taught by practitioners of different
disciplines. Stand with feet slightly
apart and arms by your side, relaxed.
Relax the shoulders, and concentrate on
your breathing, consciously relaxing all
of your body from the top of your head
to your toes. Breathe deeply in through
the nose, holding for a few moments and
then breath out through the mouth.
First
breath in the colour red imagine it rising
up through your whole body giving you
strength and courage as you breathe in
and experience the colour filling your
body. Allow the colour to travel up through
the body and out of the top of the head
and then back down again to the earth.
Repeat with orange, then yellow. These
first three colours are absorbed from
the earth. Then green. This colour is
absorbed through the solar plexus, let
it fill your body and let it leave through
the back. Then blue which is absorbed
from the sky, through the top of the head
and out again going back up to the
sky, similarly with
the indigo and violet.
If this
exercise is done daily, you will really
notice how your colour awareness develops
and you will be able to visualize the
colours much more strongly as you do this
exercise regularly, balancing and enhancing
your body's energies.
Psychological And Therapeutic Effects
Of Colours
Each
individual illness or disease has a unique
frequency of its own and manifests itself
differently in each person,
Depending
upon their constitution and life’s
‘energetic” experiences.
Psychological and therapeutic effects
of colours:
Red
is the symbol of love and
anger and of life itself;
with its penetration power,
which is the highest of all
colours;
It
is recommended for treatment
of impeded circulation, muscles
and heart. It generates enthusiasm,
arouses passion and has a
cheering effect.
Orange
symbolizes joy and happiness
and helps raise the spirit;
hence it is recommended for
cases involving depression
and fear.
It
promotes a healthy appetite
and increases the sex drive.
It is used for hormonal cleansing
and in menstrual difficulties.
It’s a bright, warm
source of encouragement for
all aspects of life.
Yellow
is a clear purifying colour,
which stimulates clarity of
intellect, as well as toxin
processing and elimination.
It
can help with learning disabilities
and with strengthening of
the endocrine functions.
Green
is a cooling, sedating colour,
which helps reduce swelling
of joints and tissues; it
calms the body and helps reduce
inflammation.
It’s
the colour of the relaxed
heart.
Turquoise
is the colour for mental relaxation
and tackling embedded psychological
barriers.
It
acts as a tonifier and can
help regulate imbalances in
the lung-large intestine system.
It is a colour that facilitates
spiritual growth.
Blue
is a cool colour that has
a claming effect, inside as
well as on the outside.
It
is very helpful in treating
sleep disorders and headaches,
yet also regulates elastic
tissues in the organism. It
helps in all kinds of cramps
and can have an anti-bacterial
effect.
Violet
promotes awareness and consciousness.
It increases effects of meditation.
It
promotes proper functioning
of the lymphatic system and
is a very helpful in times
of menopause. It is the colour
for neutralizing emotional
wounds and for spiritual growth.

G: Are
there any questions or comments?
M: Yes, I learned a lot then, so many
people get put off meditating and things
because they think it’s a long process.
I like the way you teach it, very helpful
thanks.
M: Are
you going to put this in the Archives?
G: Yes they will be placed in the Archives,
along with the list of colours and uses.
M: I didn’t understand how to filter
the colour.
G: The filter is like a screen that the
sunlight can flow through it can be made
of coloured cellophane or acetate and
just wrapped around the glass and fastened
with an elastic band. The energy comes
from the colour.
G2: Can I ask you to point out about green?
That any one that is suffering with a
tumour of any form of cancer should not
use it.
M: Contra indications?
G2: While green is a good colour for healing,
it does encourage growth. So any tumour
or cancer cells multiply.
G: Before
we close the circle I ask that we visualize
each of us coming together and forming
a circle of light. We are going to send
out healing energy to those who have requested
healing.
Lets
us reach down deep within ourselves and
connect with and bring forth all the love
and light that dwells there. Now we will
combine with this the healing energy available
to us from within the universe. Visualize
Rainbow Rays of light passing through
you, Now we will project these rays to
the one who have requested healing at
this time. As requested these names are:
Cher and her sister, Dee, Dae, Sue, Mel,
Angel, Ella, Kathy, Sue, Ola & Geena.
Please visualize these people in the centre
of the circle and see the rainbow rays
flowing through each one of them
Knowing that each person will receive
exactly what he or she need…. So
mote it be.
Before
we close I think we should visualize any
stray energy being drawn back into the
circle and send it to the person directly
in front of you
